Open Circuit Piston Pumps

An open loop circuit piston pump constantly circulates oil from the tank.  The most basic open circuit pump is fixed displacement.  In an effort to minimise power and heat losses, load-sense piston pumps vary their displacement to meet the demand required i.e. when no power is required the pump will de-stroke to a small standby flow until a demand is placed on it again.

Closed Circuit Piston Pumps

Closed Circuit Piston Pumps

Closed circuit piston pumps are generally used for hydrostatic drive systems. Instead of the return oil from the motor returning to the tank, the oil is redirected back to the pump and re-circulated.  A small gear pump called a charge pump replaces a small percentage of oil in the loop with fresh oil on a continuous basis. Controls typically range from pressure compensation, kW limitation, torque limitation or electric remote adjustment.  Usually on large systems a cooler will be required and a reservoir with a minimum of twice the maximum flow from the pump.

Designed for smaller package sizes, Danfoss pumps provide design engineers with more freedom and flexibility in system design.  Performance, power density and functionality are standard features of the Danfoss axial piston pumps for the diverse off-highway mobile market.  Danfoss have the displacement, configuration and control option to suit your specific application.
